Support Moms

Meet our team of volunteer support moms: a motivated and dynamic group, here for you!

Many of us experienced breastfeeding difficulties, such as babies who don’t gain enough weight, milk overproduction, cracked nipples, thrush, mastitis and tongue ties. In many cases, well-timed help was instrumental in overcoming these difficulties, paving the way for the joy and simplicity of breastfeeding.

Within our group, we have experience in breastfeeding twins, breastfeeding while going back to work, breastfeeding during pregnancy, tandem breastfeeding, and in natural weaning (child-led weaning). We wish to offer our support to other mothers to help them reach their breastfeeding goals and enjoy the beauty of this special relationship.

Here is what our support moms have to say about their experience:

I faced numerous challenges when I chose to breastfeed my first baby : small birth weight followed by insufficient weight gain, extremely painful breastfeeding, sleepy baby, posterior tongue tie that was not released during the frenectomy, breast engorgement… I could never have overcome these obstacles on my own. The help that I received, along with the support of my partner and extended family, enabled me to successfully establish breastfeeding and to finally discover the simplicity and joy of this natural gesture. I was extremely grateful for the support that I received. I therefore decided to do my part to help other mothers reach their breastfeeding goals, and enjoy the tenderness and joy of this special relationship with their baby.

Why did I become a breastfeeding support mom? Because I wanted my experience as a mom to benefit others. After difficult breastfeeding experiences with children with severe food intolerances, pathologic gastro-oesophageal reflux, and intense crying, I wanted to help other mothers. My role as a breastfeeding support mom allows me to share my experience as a mom, while giving advice based on the training we receive.  We have up-to-date information to better inform mothers of their choices. We are there to support mothers in their decision-making, and in their day-to-day reality. When I became a breastfeeding support mom, I discovered a group of moms who became friends. I look forward to our monthly meetings to exchange about our experiences as mothers, and breastfeeding support moms.

I wanted to become a breastfeeding support mom to give back to the community by helping other mothers initiate breastfeeding, and by offering support during the post-natal period that is so intense for all new parents. I loved the training offered to new support moms, and the information that I learned was extremely useful with my next babies. I also found at Moms for Milk a community of extraordinary women who became my friends. I wanted to give back to the community, and I think I did, but it is clear that I received much in exchange!
